In my final draft I was able to select, integrate and explain my quotes. I did this by making my claim with my topic sentence, introducing my quotes, correctly incorporating the quotes, adding what is said in the quote, and lastly analyzing and adding what I say about it to prove my claim. I think I did this very effectively in my first quote from Nicholas Carr. I started by claiming that technology is changing the way we think. Then I introduced my quote by explaining that Carr can feel technology changing the way he focuses and reads. I followed this by a quote of Carr explaining that he used to be able to read easily and naturally but now it’s become harder to focus and think, making it impossible to be able to read an entire article. I continued by summarizing and explaining that Carr can see these effects of technology on himself. Lastly I added that I agree because I also can’t focus for long anymore and I proved my claim by explaining that the constant stimulation technology provides causes us to not be able to focus anymore and it’s changing the way we think. I was able to successfully and smoothly integrate my quote and make it clear what they say vs what I say.

The way I integrated this quote showed significant growth from my ability to integrate quotes in my earlier essays. In previous essays and even in this essay before revision I didn’t always have a clear topic sentence or clear context around my quotes. I would also sometimes struggle with differentiating what I personally had to say about the quote vs just stating what the person i’m quoting is saying. But in this third essay I really made sure to include every part needed to integrate a quote and I think I have made great improvements with this skill.
